Leadership Updates

August 2, 2021

Dear CFC Family,

We are thankful for All Souls Presbyterian Church’s graciousness in providing a space for our church to worship as a body of Christ.  On July 11th, 2021 we re-opened and moved away from live-streamed services with close to 200 adults and children worshipping together.   It has been so good to be together.

A vision was cast for our church for the next few years based on 1 Peter 2:4-5.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

There are two priorities that we want to focus on in the next two years:

Building up the spiritual house [“being built up as a spiritual house”]- We pray that God will build up the spiritual house with four pillars:  grace, mercy, truth, and love.

Blessing the community [“be a holy priesthood”]- through our lives, through our words, through our prayers, and through our service we want to be a blessing to our community.

As we move towards particularizing as a church within the Presbyterian Church in America, for the first time in CFC history we officially installed members into our church during our Sunday services.

We believe in the importance of membership.  Taken from our website:
The moment that a man or woman places their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, they not only enjoy the blessing of union with Christ but also become members of his body, the church (Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 3:6). To be a member of Covenant Fellowship Church is to affirm your faith in Christ and to commit yourself to this local body of Christian believers.

Our first official membership meeting will be on August 8, 2021. Though we announced that we would no longer be having congregational meetings after reevaluating the Oversight Board has decided that the membership meeting will be open to those that are installed members of CFC along with those that attend CFC

As an additional update, Pastor KJ Kim has begun the process of transferring his credentials from the Korean Central Presbytery [KCP] to the Presbytery of Northern Illinois [PNI] in hopes of particularizing our church within the PNI.

Update on Investigation
On Sunday July 11th, we gathered together for a two-hour presentation on the work that has been done thus far into the investigation of the culture and health of CFC.  The Center consulting Group presented key findings about the churchwide survey and one on one interviews.  We expect GRACE Ministries to begin their work in August and we will release a full report of the work of the Center and Grace at the conclusion of their investigation.  It is our desire to humbly listen, learn and grow so that we can be a healthier church moving forward, a church that changes lives and the world with the Gospel of Jesus.

Please continue to pray for CFC as we make intentional steps towards particularizing and having more layers of accountability.

We as a leadership are inviting you to pray with us in this season.  We are committing this month to a special season of prayer and are committing to pray from 12:00-12:30PM as well as 9:00-9:30PM for our church.  You are welcome to pray any time but the leadership is going to pray at those specific times for our church.  We are going to look to the LORD to continue to build His church.
