Leadership Updates

June 5, 2021

Dear CFC Family,

Thank you for your continued prayers for CFC and please know that we commit to continue to keep you up to date on leadership updates.  We have several that we want to share with you and please know that we care deeply for each of you and look forward to bring health and healing to our church family. These are some of the steps that we plan on taking.

Cultural Assessment/Investigation
We are contracting with an independent third-party group called GRACE [Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment].  We have chosen to contract with GRACE because they specialize in abuse. And we want them to do a comprehensive assessment and investigation of CFC to fully understand any abuses that have occurred.  A summary of Grace:

“Our process, once invited by your institution’s leadership, will typically include conducting a survey to gain a pulse of your organizational culture, interview pertinent individuals with personal experiences or information, gather data to assess the culture, pinpoint any specific areas of organizational growth, and present the organization with findings and recommendations to enhance organizational culture to better meet the needs of those under your care.”

You can find out more about GRACE at: netgrace.org.

Church Health Survey
We are contracting  with the Center Consulting Group to do a comprehensive church health survey that will provide important information on the current health of our church.  The survey will be available by June 15, 2021 for all regular members and attenders.  The survey will be anonymous and results sent directly to the Center consulting Group.

Church Interviews
We are contracting with the Center Consulting Group to do a series of one-on-one interviews via zoom with a cross section of our church family.  These interviews will include a diversity of people including men, women, college/graduate students, and working professionals.  We anticipate these surveys being completed by the end of June 2021 and these interviews will be done by the Center consulting Group.

This will provide important information on the current health of our church.  The survey will be available by June 15, 2021 for all regular members and attenders.  The survey will be anonymous and results sent directly to the Center consulting Group.

CFC becoming a PCA Church
We are making plans to particularize and officially become a PCA church and are prayerfully considering leaving the Korean Central Presbytery (KCP) and joining a regionally based presbytery that is not Korean speaking. As much as it saddens us to leave relationships that we have formed over the years, it makes sense for us to align with a regionally based local presbytery. The primary reason in joining this presbytery is because of the simple fact that we are not a Korean church and so it makes sense to align with a more regionally based presbytery.

Lord willing, we are hoping to particularize as a PCA church by the middle of next year.  We are looking forward to becoming a PCA church because there will be more layers of accountability for our church and for the leadership. We are really excited for what this new era will mean for our church.

CFC Membership
We opened the opportunity for everyone that currently attends CFC to become official members of our church in September of 2020.  As we mentioned in a previous congregational meeting, we have halted the process of membership until the decisions of the presbytery.  We plan on resuming the process of membership.

Finally, we are committed to a complete and thorough evaluation of CFC and we are also committed to a complete and full accountability of where our ministry has been and the changes needed to lead into the future.  We do not fully know how people have been hurt and sinned against and believe that bringing in outside help (GRACE and The Center) will provide accountability and clarity for healing and the acceptance and ownership of these past sins.  We ask for your patience as these groups do their work and we commit to giving a complete report of their findings.

The Oversight Board was placed in their role ten months ago and was required to follow the lead of the presbytery through the investigation of Pastor Min that concluded in April of 2021.  These steps and others will continue to guide us so that truth may prevail and the power of Christ will be demonstrated in all we do.

Sincerely,
The Oversight Board
