B League RPI Rankings

By: Screamin A Smith

The not-so-basic RPI formula is 1/4*(Winning Percentage) + 1/2*(Opponents' Average Winning Percentage) + 1/4*(Opponents' Opponents' Winning Percentage). Commonly used in NCAA bracketology, I have calculated it for A League and B League. However, I soon realized, after long hours, that A League teams all have the same exact schedule. Thus making the RPI rankings and the league standings identical.

I have new rankings according to the RPI. However, this does not change the seeding of any teams.

RPI: Ratings Percentile Index
SOS: Strength of Schedule

          Team          Record     RPI     SOS     Rank

1. Dallas Mavericks   6-0     .5931   .4333      2
They have the highest RPI ranking in the league and the strongest SOS between the undefeated teams (who all have had the weakest SOS in the league). Although it irritates Captain Ben, the Mavs have found ways to win against a Box-1 defense.

2. Phoenix Suns   6-0     .5667   .3333      3
They're undefeated but they're sloppy. Somehow, Captain Seong Lee continues to find ways to put his team in winning positions.

2. O.K.C. Thunder   6-0     .5667   .3333      4
They're small but they all hustle. Their defensive hustle and their smooth offense make this team a contender. The chemistry between the 3 guards is exceptional. However, the Thunder have yet to face a team with a true big man. It will be interesting to see how they compete.

4. Portland Trailblazers   6-0     .5514   .3      1
The number one seed took advantage of the easiest schedule in the entire league. It's no wonder they have a point differential of 79. Can they adjust to tougher competition? Can they overcome the Curse of the Number One Seed?

5. Houston Rockets   2-4     .5139   .6333      11
The Rockets had the second hardest schedule in the league. With a different schedule, they are a team that could have been a winning team. This team has been tested tremendously. If they can find a way to correct their mistakes, they might be able to pull off an upset.

6. Orlando Magic   3-3     .5056   .5333      8
With a tough schedule, while missing leading scorer Paul Han, the Magic still managed to be a 500 team. Captain James Lee has made a couple adjustments that might help them compete again.

6. New York Knicks   2-4     .5056   .6      10
Another losing team, with a high RPI. The Knicks have the third hardest schedule in the league. But this team refuses to rebound. Without defensive rebounds, this team is unable to complete their identity as a fast team.

8. Chicago Bulls   4-2     .4958   .3667      5
The Bulls fall in the RPI rankings because of their weak schedule. However, their chemistry will keep them as competitors in the playoffs.

8. Toronto Raptors   3-3     .4958   .4667      7
The tandem of Enoch Ahn and Sammy Yoo is still a work in progress. Their teamwork with the addition of Captain Josh Cho allowed them to have a 500 season.

10. Philadelphia 76ers   3-3     .4931   .5      6
This team is finally playing well together. They are the most complete team. Great point guard, great center, and do-it-all forward David Sur.

11. Denver Nuggets   2-4     .4889   .6667      15
The Nuggets, tied with the Warriors, had the hardest schedule in the league. If Sam Ham gets hot, this team might go past the first round.

12. Memphis Grizzlies   2-4     .4847   .6      12
A deceptively bad record due to not having a complete team throughout the season. Look for them to pull off an upset. They have the size and shooters to make it happen.

13. Atlanta Hawks   2-4     .4792   .5667      9
Strangely fall back 4 spots from the standings. But don't underestimate this team. If Tim Wang plays smarter and if Captain Dave Yu decides to play and if Elmo Chae brings the D, this team will make some noise.

14. Golden State Warriors   1-5     .4764   .6667      14
They need to find a way to be more efficient. They have the pieces but they are turnover prone and shoot a poor percentage.

15. Minnesota T'Wolves   0-6     .3986   .6      16
Tough schedule. This team still needs to find an identity. They need to move Gunny Khang to the shooting guard position. A point guard to distribute Gunny Khang and Daniel Lee should bring smoother offense.

16. N.O. Hornets   1-5     .3597   .3667      13
Weak schedule and losing record. But still has some potential to pull off an upset. If they can find better offense, instead of standing around on the perimeter, they might be able to win more games.

B League Week 2 Power Rankings

By: Ben "Big N Tasty" Kim

Hello everyone. The long wait is over and what you've all been yearning for is finally here. After my successful 'Game of the Weekend' article, I've gotten an unfathomable amount of offers from the likes of ESPN and Yahoo-sports to be the next 'sports guy' or 'skeets', but their lucrative offers didn't faze me. I had to 'get that dirt off my shoulder' b/c I only write for the highly prestigious, action-packed, greatest basketball league in the nation, CFC summer league.

The B-league has been all that it's worked up to be, with several teams fighting for the top spots. The likes of Joe Kim and Joe Chen have used dirty tricks to try and bribe me with Famous Dave's ribs and Oreo cookies (with milk!!) for the top spot on this week's power rankings, but I was unruffled by the tantalizing offers. I've tried to be as subjective as possible, making every biased opinion and putting the people I dislike the most on the bottom of this list. It was the only fair way to go about it. (j/k). Whether you are at the top of the list or the bottom, don't stress. It's only the half way mark. and we always have to remember what our beloved Jib-Sa-Nim reiterates: (until the end~)

Blazers (4-0)

- The Blazers get the #1 spot this week not only b/c they have won all four games in a convincing fashion, but all the other 4-0 teams have had at least one nail biter. I don't completely know if the Blazers can beat the other undefeated teams (it would highly depend on how they match up), but they have proved that they are a well-balanced unit (23 assists as a team) with a proven star. Davin arguably has one of the best stat lines in the league with 47points, 7 assists, 6 steals, and 18 rebounds, leading his team in every statistical category.

Mavericks (4-0)

- After week one, the Mavs (my team) looked like they were the favorites to win it all, but last week proved that they have a long, very long ways to go. They barely edged out a victory against the short-handed Knicks, largely due to the clutch shooting of Brian Choe and Callem Chia. Captain Ben Kim must stop hogging the freakin' ball and pass to his teammates. Gosh. He has been a selfish piece of crap and must trust his teammates more if they want to be called one of the best. John Yang, Joe Lee, and Jae Ha Ryu have been huge on the glass for the Mavs, who lead the league with 75.

Suns (4-0)

- The Suns have been playing well, but not even close to the potential they can play at. They have not lost a game, but several of the wins were a bit too close for comfort. The addition of Paul Ahn and Joe Kim has brought this team to square one when it comes to chemistry and once again Captain Seong Lee had to carry the bulk of the scoring in week two. Tim Ro and Mark Chen have contributed tremendously on the defensive end with a combined 13 steals.

Bulls (4-0)

- The Bulls dodged a bullet on Saturday, barley earning a victory over the Hawks by the heroics of Eddie Kim. I was refereeing an A-league game when the far court erupted with a loud cheer. When I looked over I saw Eddie rising up for a long range bomb, and as it swished in, the crowd went bananas. He hit the game winning 3-pointer to cap it at 30 with only 5 seconds left. It really doesn't get much better than that. However, the fact that the Bulls struggled so much against the Hawks (while Tim Wang had an off night) showed that this team still had some work to do. We'll see what the Bulls are really made of this weekend as they face the top seed in the league.

Thunder (4-0)

- The Thunder survived a huge scare by the Rockets this week, winning on missed free throw by the opposing team. The three-guard line up has not disappointed us combining for more than 85% of the teams scoring. Jong (Paul) Park is playing like he's 21 years old again, embarrassing opposing guards with his Manu-esque left hand, leading his team to tough victories. This week's match up against the Knicks, who is also a guard-oriented lineup, will be fun to watch.

Grizzlies (2-2)

- The Grizzlies got the spot here b/c of their strong performance in week 2. The addition of Alex Park has been a huge lift for the team who desperately needed some help on the offensive end. His stat line of 14pts, 2 ast, 4stl, 10 rbs, and 5 blks is just absurd. If Mike Zhong can light it up from the 'arc', like how he did today, playing pick up at the 'ARC' (haha, arc - ARC ... -___-), They can challenge any of the top teams in the league

Magic (3-1)

- The Magic could have easily gone 4-0 last week if it wasn't for a freak ankle sprain by their leading scorer and rebounder Paul Han. Once Paul went down, Captain Tank Lee did everything in his might to get the team going on offense, but he just couldn't take the offensive load all by himself. You didn't realize the impact Paul had on the team until you saw how lost they look on offense in the second half. The addition of Pastor Dave Kang, who is back fresh from saving souls in Africa, will help on both ends on the floor, but his teammates MUST knock down jumpers if they want to have a chance to win w/o their star player.

Raptors (2-2)

- The Raptors should be a bit higher on this list, based on how they played so well last week. However, only scoring 5 points in an entire game, getting shut out in the second half, and losing by 23 points in a B-LEAGUE game is almost unforgivable. The offense finally found its identity last week with ROY front-runner Enoch Ahn who consistently broke down the defense with his penetration and found open shooters. If he can lead the Raptors to another 2-0 week, and record a quadruple-double on the season, he will for sure get my vote for ROY.

Knicks (1-3)

- The Knicks are the new Golden State Warriors (period)! My team played them last week and I recall them scoring on 7 three balls (21 points)! Who the heck shoots pull up transition 3-pointers?! They have been very unlucky the last couple games they had this past week, losing with a combined score of 4 points, one on a late buzzer beater, but their grit on the defensive end, and their ability to knock down the long ball has kept them in every single game. One or two breaks here and there and they can easily be 3-1. However, like the great Vin Diesel says: "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, a wins a win. You thought you had me?!!! YOU NEVER HAD ME!" ... werd up.

Rockets (1-3)

- The Rockets also should be much higher on this list, but they have had by far the hardest schedule thus far in summer league. They ran into the Thunder and the Suns this past week and were SO close to winning them, yet somewhat far. The lack of a closer on offense for this team has hurt them down the stretch, and has dissipated the efforts they have put in on defense. Joe Chen and Chris Cho have been playing like Shane Battier and Ron Artest, shutting teams down with their 'leech' defense.

Atlanta Hawks (1-3)

- Even though they are on the lower end of my power rankings, the Hawks showed me a lot last week and have something to hang their hats on. The team lost on a miracle buzzer beater to the potent Bulls, and played a pretty competitive game in the 'game of the weekend', all while their top scorer having an off night. Captain Dave Yu came to play last week looking unstoppable at times, and making a point that the Hawks ain't no one man team. If they can put it all together they can be a dangerous duo(Like Ricky Bobby and Cal, Shake and Bake!), but for now they just confuse me more and more. "It's a giant pretzel in my head!" - Cal 'the magic man' from Talledega Night"

76ers (1-3)

- A big win against the Nuggets last weekend got the 'first win pressure' off their shoulders. Ben Carlson came in like a man amongst boys with his intimidating size and knee braces. Because of the absence of their best shooter Tony Thomas, I can't gauge how good these guys really are, but Ben allows their lottery, David Sur, to be more of a play-maker and to play on the perimeter where he prefers.

Nuggets (1-3)

- Joshua Chung is proving all the critics wrong by playing some great ball on both ends of the court. He leads all leagues with 8 blocks, which is just crazy for someone who is 5'10, and showing some resemblance to Shawn Marion (even his shot looks somewhat similar! Craziness). They have one of the most athletic front courts with Sam, Josh, and Charlie Wen, but I think they have to run-n-gun more to take advantage of their speed.

Hornets (0-4)

- My heart goes out to the Hornets. They have several guys I LOVE playing ball with and several guys who are just awesome dudes. They look like they can beat anyone on paper, but somehow they keep losing, and I think it's really starting to get to their heads. They have to stop putting pressure on themselves, and relax and play like how they always play. Defensively, they can hang with anyone, but they just have to see a couple shots go in and get their confidence up a bit. If you are one of the top seeds, you better pray that you guys don't see these guys in the playoffs, b/c they are the most likely to pull off an upset.

G.S Warriors (0-4)

- Mohamed Sokona blew up last week filling up the stat line with 25pts, 5 stls, and 10 reb, (even 8 fouls!) The team has a lot of size and good athletes, but they just have to work on chemistry and assign roles to players. Cutting down on the fouls might help a bit too (37 PF as a team)

Timberwolves

- I hate to do this, but there has to be a last place for my power rankings, and sorry, but Timberwolves get the nod this week. Jed drafted a quick team that will grind it out against other teams, but the lack of size and the lack of experience is making it hard for Jed, Itch and Co. to see W's. The countless hours of fasting and praying has put a toll on Itch Hung's body and he's struggling to perform the way he did 3 years ago when he took the DPY. Everyone plays for the 'ship, but it's ALL about the Fellow'ship, not no Champion'ship ... right?! As 2pac would say to all the single mom's out there in the hood, "Baby keep ya head up, woo child things are gonna get easiah ~ Woowoo child things will get brightah ~"

Thanks for reading everyone. Hope you guys have a great rest of the summer league! =)

A League Week 2 Power Rankings

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

By: That Guy

Welcome to another week of "That Guy" Power Rankings. In this week Power Rankings you will see the Spurs disappear from the top 2 faster then Vanilla Ice's rap career. The Lakers remind me of an awful Tom Cruise movie. The Wizards have me question how "free" a free-throw is when you never seem to make them. The Heat force me to use a Michael Olowokandi reference (Is that guy even still alive). The Celtics make me wonder if they are trying to answer the question "if only one guy scores the entire game for them can they still win". And the Pacers prove that instead of getting the first pick in next years draft... they may be getting the 2nd.

Cleveland Cavaliers (4-0): Interesting week for the Cavs as they dominate the Pacers with excellent play from Toray Reynolds and Nick Shaner but then they nearly get beat by Seattle. Even with there uneven performance last week they get the number one spot this week in the power rankings. Cavs continue to get out and run and when you combine that with their ability to hit the perimeter shot it should be to no one's surprise they are 4-0. Right now it is tough to find weaknesses in the team Coach Shaner has put together. Cavs next week will face both the Wizards and Spurs who for different reasons will test the Cavs as they haven't been tested before. I'm willing to bet they will pass those tests!

Biggest Question: Does Nick Shaner make it into the CFC Hall of Fame as a coach or player if he wins his 3rd straight CFC championship?

Washington Wizards (1-1): As big of a loss it was to have Quentin Robbins missing from the Spurs this week it was that big of gain for the Wizards to have Chumar Williams arrive. With Williams at point the Wizards are arguably the best "team" in the league right now. Williams impact was clearly shown as DJ lead the league in assists week 2 along with Moreland leading the league in 3pt field goals made. Williams greatest impact may be his ability to balance getting the ball inside to Duncantell while also creating open looks for Moreland and DJ. It wasn't a perfect week for the Wizards though cause in the game versus the Heat they seemed to turn the ball over more then a 3rd grade girls game but Moreland's shooting (18 points) bailed the Wizards out against the Heat. I would definitely like to see them run a little more often to take advantage of their big men (Duncantell, Andy Shin) ability to get up and down the floor and seeing their facing the Cavs next week they may not have a choice.

Biggest question: Did these guys go to the "University of Shaquille O'Neal free throw shooting"? Will their free throw shooting cost them a Championship?

Boston Celtics (2-2): There is that old age question "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Well I got a new age CFC question about the Celtics: If Kevin Causley doesn't score a basket can anyone else on the Celtics score? This is a team I can't figure out. They have talent in Charles Kim, Sean Hampton and Marchund Hillsman yet versus the two top teams in my power rankings these three guys have brought nothing to the table on offense. The Celtics two wins this year have come against a Lakers team without any post defense (MC Neal was hurt) and a Spurs team missing Quentin Robbins. Causley again put up monster numbers and seems to be a lock for Offensive Player of the Year but I expect more from the other guys. They have week 3 to find a second option on offense to compliment Causley. I believe it will be Will Smith who did not play week 2... or maybe its one of the 3 guys I mentioned above. Regardless of who it is this team better figure it out or they will be going fishing with Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley sooner then they ever imagined.

Biggest Question: To borrow a line from the great Eminem... "Will the real Celtics please stand up"?

San Antonio Spurs (2-2): Well if there was any doubt about how valuable Quentin Robbins is to the Spurs there is none anymore. Spurs go 0-2 without Q and to top it off they get DOMINATED by Kevin Causley. How does a guy get 30 points and 11 rebounds in a 20 minute game (with running clock)? Where was Mr. Adekunle at during this superb performance by Mr. Causley? One positive they can take from last week was Mike Ward found his stroke and averaged 20 points per game last week. As one person stated "Mike hit EVERYTHING in sight".... but with that said there are some serious questions about the Spurs that they will have to answer before they can compete for the championship. If they don't shoot well from perimeter can they still win? Can they find a third scoring option? Can they find a threat to score from the post? Are they allergic to defense?

Biggest Question: Who is tougher: Spurs defense or Pillsbury Doughboy?

Los Angeles Lakers (2-2): Talk about a team that had an opportunity to establish themselves as a contender for the title and let it slip through their fingers. MC Neal must have read my request last week and he arrived which I thought would be the final piece in adding them to my championship contender list but how do the Lakers respond you may ask??? They go overtime versus Seattle and they lose to the Pacers. Huh? I don't know what's more confusing... The Lakers losing to the Pacers or the ending to the "Vanilla Sky" movie starring Tom Cruise/ Penelope Cruz (free plug for them). They hold steady in my power rankings because I have to take into account that Marko did not arrive till halftime of their first game, which they were losing, and he led them back to victory. Plus it was their first games playing with MC and they needed time to adjust to each other. Is just me or am I making a lot of excuses for them? The Lakers get a shot to show everyone how good they are as they face the Wizards and Spurs in week 3.

Biggest Question: Can anyone explain the ending to Vanilla Sky to me?

Miami Heat (1-3): This week was a wash for the Heat. They played two competitive games versus two of the upper echelon teams in the Spurs and Wizards. They went 1-1 with a real chance to go 2-0 if Kenny Moreland (Wizards) doesn't hit a game winning 3 with less then 30 seconds left to go in the game. The Heat in week 2 showed more of a desire to play defense (Butler was the week 2 steals leader) and continued to get great play from their backcourt of Rico and Butler. This team at times looks unstoppable but at other times looks very average. One of the reasons for this is the play of Devin Johnson who at times is very aggressive (Week 2 leader in rebounds) and can be a force at both ends of the floor but at other times is passive and a non-factor on the defensive end. One might believe his inconsistent play could be a result of a lack of touches but regardless of the reason the more aggressive Johnson is the farther the Heat will go. "That Guy" still believes that when all is said and done the Heat are the team that no one will want to play in the play-offs.

Biggest Question: How do you get the big fella to play more like Shaq instead of Michael Olowokandi?

Seattle Supersonics (1-3): Seattle showed up this week and they responded to "That Guy" suggesting they don't compete for the entire time. They let one slip through their hands versus the Lakers (overtime loss) as they had a double-digit lead but turnovers cost them. I love how these guys attack the rim and put the pressure on the other team. And even though they lack a true "point guard" they seem to share the ball really well. Still their defense has to be questioned. They allowed nearly 40 points to the Cavs and their inability to get one stop on defense when they needed it was what cost them the game. I'm not giving up on Seattle though (both Cavs and Lakers barely beat them) because if they respond to my call to play defense as they did to my call for them to be more competitive from the opening tip then we might be talking about Seattle going 2-0 next week instead of 0-2 like this week.

Biggest Question: Why in the world is Calvin Evans coming off the bench?

Indiana Pacers (1-3): Ok, I was a little rough on Indiana last week and they responded admirably this week by not getting embarrassed by the Cavs (they were competitive the entire game) and actually winning a game versus the Lakers in the showdown of "Floyd vs. Price". I also called for another guy to step up besides Mike Floyd and I believe Kenny Kolokolo responded to that call. He played with emotion and desire that I feel the team lacked in week one. Kenny Kolokolo also showed some versatility as I saw him bang down low with the big fellas while also stepping out in another game and stroking a 3. Unfortunately the Pacers need more to possibly be a factor this year. Floyd continued his push for Defensive Player of the Year honors (on one end of the floor he crossed a guy over and pulled up for 15 foot jumper then on the defensive end coming back he blocked a guys shot off the wall... the victim of this schooling will remain nameless but you know who you are). Another win this week and I guarantee they will be out the cellar of "That Guy" Power Rankings.

Biggest Question: Can you win Defensive Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in the same season?

Fab 5 Guards:

  1. Mike Floyd (Pacers) - He gets the nod this week because he led his team to a victory over Marko and the Lakers plus he continues to do EVERYTHING for his team.
  2. Marko Price (Lakers)- Showed his value by showing up at half and leading his team from double digits down to a victory. Would love to see him get some chemistry going with MC Neal and have a Kobe/ Shaq thing going.
  3. Carlon Butler (Heat)- Still waiting for that break out game from Butler but I feel it is coming. Showed me his defensive prowess in week 2 by leading the league in steals.
  4. Mike Ward (Spurs)- Ward had to have read the Fab 5 last week and wondered how the Mr. 2008 Offensive Player of the Year doesn't make the list. So how does he respond? He was the league leader in scoring for week two (20.5 ppg). How do I respond? My apologies Mr. Ward.
  5. Kenny Moreland (Wizards)- Tough call between Moreland and Toray Reynolds (Cavs) but have to go with Moreland. Though both had significant games for their respect teams the late go ahead 3 by Moreland versus Heat was one of many huge 3's he hit in that game.

Fab 5 Forwards:

  1. Kevin Causley (Celtics)- In my match-up of the week offensive fireworks did not erupt between Causely and Duncantell (both held in single-digits in scoring) but in Game 2 versus the Spurs that was not the case for Causley.... Again how does one get 30 points in a 20 min. running clock game?
  2. Basil Duncantell (Wizards)- It was as if he went to Big Man boot camp in week 2. Faced 6'7 Marc Henkel of Celtics and 6'8 Devin Johnson of Heat. Though his offensive production lacked this week he was one of the league leaders in rebounds and continued to make key plays on defense. For the Wizards to win it all though he must score more then single digits.
  3. Devin Johnson (Heat)- Had a chance to move up the rankings as he faced Duncantell last week but was outplayed too often by him during the game. Still was the league leader in rebounds and at times was a dominant offensive force. An aggressive Johnson means a dangerous Heat team
  4. Kenny Kolokolo (Pacers)- Love the name... Love the game. He competed on every position and gave the Pacers some toughness. And he is not all hustle either as he does have some skill to his game.
  5. Andy Shin (Wizards)- Moves from my most underrated players of week one to my Fab 5 in week two. What this guy brings to the table isn't found in a stat book. He has improved from last year on both sides of the ball. His defense and ability to finish around the basket is completely underrated.

5 predictions going into week 3

  1. Kevin Causley will score 25 points and get 11 rebounds versus the Pacers... in the first half!
  2. Celtics and Heat will both go 2-0 and gain some much needed momentum going into the play-offs... as a result the Pacers and Sonics will go 0-2 thus making my decision on who is at the bottom of "That's Guy" power rankings the hardest decision I have to make next week.
  3. That someone will finally explain the ending of Vanilla Sky to me.
  4. No team will be undefeated after week 3. Cavs will beat the Wizards in overtime and then they will lose to Spurs.
  5. Carlon Butler will have a break out game... Mike Floyd solidifies himself as Defensive Player of Year... At some point a loud eruption will come from the crowd watching a "B"... Calvin Evans will be the week 3 leading scorer... MC Neal plays well enough to enter my top 5 forwards next week... Cavs vs. Wizards will be game of the week...

A League - Match Up of the Summer

By: S. Shooter

Cavs v. Wizards - Court #2 @ 9.55pm

I'm not going to say: "Get your popcorn ready" for the following reasons:
1. That phrase is overused
2. No food is allowed in CRCE
3. You don't want to be eating during this contest, as you want all your focus to be on Court #2.

This match up has critical implications for both teams. The Cavs are currently undefeated, and are alone atop the A League standings. With they're loss column completely empty, it's easy to predict them to be the leading contender to go to the CFC Championship this year, as well as take the trophy home. However, this week all that can be turned upside down.

The Wizards are alone in the second place and this week is probably even larger for them. With a win over the undefeated Cavs, it's possible both teams could be tied for the same record. However, if the Wizards can pull out the W, this will give them the advantage, therefore putting them at the top of the entire A League division.

The Cavs definitely have a solid team, and this is evidenced by their record. Nick Shaner has his team on the right track to win it all. With terrific scorers like Toray Reynolds, and Michael McDonald, it's easy for them to put points on the board. Rod Smith, does an excellent job wiping the boards clean, and let's not forget about P. Min Chung who will knock down a three-pointer at will even though he has yet to score this year.

However, the Wizards have what it takes to combat that line. With two solid bigs in Andy Shin and Duncantell, great PG in Williams, and excellent scoring ability in DJ and Kenneth Moreland, this match up will be one you do not want to miss! Get your water or Gatorade ready! (Because food is not allowed in CRCE!!)

Key to making this matchup great: Both teams have to win their first games of the night!

The Twin Towers

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

By: Nicky Bobby Joe - reporting from Thousand Oaks, CA

The Twin Towers. Some might be reminded of New York. Others might be reminded of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. But the first thing that pops into my head is David Robinson and Tim Duncan. These two beasts were unstoppable. Even though I was rather young, after seeing them win the 1998-99 NBA Finals, I was in awe of their chemistry. Offensively, they played similarly. Hook shots, mid-range jumpers, sweet dunks. Defensively, they were impenetrable. If someone tried driving through the lane, I really don't know what they were thinking trying to get past these monsters. Their stats for that year were impressive:

David Robinson - 15.8 PPG, 2.43 BPG, 1.4 SPG, 2.1 APG, 10 RPG
Tim Duncan - 21.7 PPG, 2.5 BPG, 0.9 SPG, 2.4 APG, 11.4 RPG

Ever since CFC Summer League started, I have been constantly checking the webpage to see who is playing who, standings, and stats. When browsing through the teams, I was very impressed with how a handful of captains drafted. However, one team stuck out to me: the New Orleans Hornets. The reason the Hornets stuck out to me is because of CFC Summer League's Twin Towers: James McKenney and John Lee.

I think I've seen all of the players on this team play except for JMac. I only know James as CFC praise team's drummer, MustardSeeds' ringer for playing God, and having a deep, melodious voice. He stands at 6'4" and 162lbs. I've only heard rumors of how he beasts the boards and has a pretty nice mid-range jumper. For a couple years I only believed this to be a myth but from what I've been reading up on, it is obviously true. He's just getting back into the game but I'm sure come playoff time, you won't want to be under the rim with him.

They also have the great John Lee. If you've ever played w/ this man at CRCE then you know what I'm talking about. Well-defined muscles, tall, and has a sweet fade away. He stands at 6'1" and 185lbs. Although he's probably one of the nicest guys out there, he is a scary guy on the court. He will box you out to get rebounds and put backs. Now it seems as if he's in a bit of a slump but his "slump" is still extraordinary compared to other players in the league.

I had the opportunity to interview the two of them about each other and their team.
Me: What do you you think of your team's progress so far?
John: I do believe our team is getting better, but we are struggling to find our offensive chemistry.
JMac: Though our record does not show it, I think we are learning more and more how to play as a team.

Me: What's your reaction when people refer to you and John as the "Twin Towers"?
John: I like it. I like any nickname given as long as I'm associated with JMac Daddy.
JMac: I don't really have much of a reaction...(Maybe just the Interracial Twin Towers)

Me: Do you think you're more of a David Robinson or Tim Duncan?
John: David Robinson...we have similar looking biceps
JMac Neither. I'm no big man or power forward. I'm a shooter.

Me: John, what are James' strengths in his game? What should people be afraid of?
John: He has great blocking ability. Also, he has a decent perimeter shot. He is willing to do anything to benefit the team. His work ethic is extraordinary.
Me: James, what are John's strengths in his games? What should people be afraid of?
JMac: His strength is his strength! If you are under the rim after a shot with John by your side, he will go beast mode to get the board. Also, his fade away jumper. When he gets that going, watch out!

Me: Do you think you can take home the gold?
John: Right now it's very hard to see that road, but if our offense clicks we are a force to be reckoned with.
JMac: when our team gets it together, we have a great shot at it.

It's obvious that these two love playing with each other. Their stats show the similarity between David Robinson (John Lee - self-proclaimed) and Tim Duncan (JMac). Anyone can get double digits in points but both players with over 40 rebounds and 8 blocks combined is astonishing. Even though their record may be 0-4, when they start picking it up as a team, they might be unstoppable. Playoffs is when it counts. With these 2 players on an astounding starting 5 and an athletic bench, this team has a great shot to finish this tournament as champions. What can you do against this team? I'll tell you one thing you don't do. Don't even try driving it in unless you want that ball to be swatted out of your hands.

B League Game of the Week

Hawks vs. Blazers

Key match up: Davin Cho vs. Tim Wang

Hello everyone. Week 1 was a successful one and we're all pumped up for week 2. To hype up the weekend, I'm going to pick the 'Game of the weekend' and briefly write some thoughts on the match ups. If you don't like it and think your team's game should be the game of the weekend, than you can write your game of the weekend article. This is MY game of the weekend, so take it or leave it. I don't get paid for you to read it anyways.

The Blazers surprised a lot of teams last week by going 2-0 and showed some impressive ball movement and stingy defense. With a point differential of 19, they stand currently 3rd in the league, and a large amount of credit has to go to the team's superstar Davin Cho. He's been playing like a man on a mission, working hard on both ends of the floor, and willing his team to victory. Here's a brief interview I had a couple days earlier.

Me: Aye, are you (Blazers) guys any good?
Davin: Yeah, We're the best team in the league.
Me: Um, that's kind of bold. How can you say that after one week?
Davin: Because we are. We can beat anyone.
Me: You think you can beat us (Mavericks)?
Davin: Yes.
Me: ...
Me: ... Let's start small group Bible study.

I'm not going to lie, I was a bit taken back by the confidence he had in his team. However, I came out of the interview thinking, 'man, this dude really believes in his team'. I couldn't even laugh about it b/c he had such a straight face. May be it's because Paul Toh has been helping Davin out with his Jason Kidd-esque all around play. He's been doing it all, assisting, scoring, stealing, and even rebounding. He stands only at 5'5 but is out rebounding me by x11, which is really making me question my rebounding ability. Anyways, this week Davin and Paul will have their hands full on both ends of the floor.

Tim Wang's Hawks had a decent 1-1 week by beating the Hornets, but losing to the pesky Knicks. Tim showed off his knack for getting the ball in the bucket by scoring on 3-pointers, put backs, mid range jumpers, drives, and tough inside buckets. He is probably one of the best I've ever seen at getting his own rebound after a miss and putting it back up for a basket. His teammates, however, had a hard time keeping up with him with only a so-so effort in week 1. They did a great job pressuring the ball on defense and forcing turnovers (16 last week, which is second in the league after the Knicks), but they didn't do much with it b/c they missed several easy scoring opportunities. Elmo Chae, Dave Yu and Chris Chou have to make their open jumper and lay ups to take some pressure off of Tim. Dylan Stradley turned out to be a good pick up displaying a nice touch around the rim and good instincts on the boards. They should be able to score much more than 23.5 points in the upcoming week.

However, when I saw the schedule this week and saw this match up, no offense to other teammates, but the only thing that came to my mind was Davin vs. Wang. Physically Davin stands at 5'10 and183 lbs, Wang at 5'10 1/2 and 185lbs. Davin is 2nd in the league in scoring with 29 pts, Tim is tied for 5th with 23 pts. They are arguably the two strongest, quickest, and most athletic players in the league. If this was a boxing match, the comparisons are too similar that it'd be impossible to judge who the favorite is. It's like Ali vs. Frazier, Duncan vs. Garnett, Payton Manning vs. Tom Brady, Man U vs. Inter Milan, Halk Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior, Al Pacino vs. Robert De Nero, Britney vs. Christina, Rib eye vs. Filet Minon, Coke vs. Pepsi, etc. etc. If you love basketball and want to watch a great game, watch this one. If you don't know anything about basketball, but love the competitive and suspenseful aspects of sports, watch this one. If you are a female and want to watch good-looking guys play their hearts out, while looking good doing it, watch this one. (I got you Davin).

9:30 PM, court 3. Bring your video cameras to put clips on YouTube, this is MY 'game of the weekend' and I promise it won't disappoint.

A League Fab Five

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

By: Da Scout

Fab Five Guards:

1) Marco Price- Gets the job done without even seeming to break out into a sweat. Whether it‘s pulling up for a 3 on the break or hitting a floater in the lane he is the early Offensive Player of the Year favorite.

2) Quentin Robbins- Some would say he is a shooting guard but he showed week one that he can lead a team while also filling it up from the perimeter with long threes.

3) Carlon Butlter- Ability to get in the lane is second to none along with the ability to stroke the jumper. Even though only 6 feet tall is one of the few players who plays above the rim.

4) Mike Floyd- This guy is athletic! His pull-up jumper and ability to defend multiple positions makes him one of the best players in the league.

5) Rico Powell- Showed after week 1 that he deserves a spot in my Fave 5. If he shows an ability to maintain that excellent first week he may be able to climb the list.

Fab Five forwards:

1) Kevin Causley- Dunked on the entire Lakers front line... enough said.

2) Basil Duncantell- Athletic forward who does multiple things well on the floor. His skill set and desire to win makes him tough to guard.

3) “Hot Rod” Smith- Dominated the backboards the first week along with playing excellent defense. His play will determine how far the Cavs make it.

4) Devin Johnson- His presence on both ends of the floor is why the Heat still have to be feared even though they went 0-2 after week one.

5) Chris Norman- Love his game. He takes his skill level and mixes it with hustle and gets the job done. One of the most underrated players in CFC.

Fab Five things looking forward to during Week 2:

1) Carlon Butler versus Spurs backcourt (Mike Ward and Quentin Robbins)- Get your popcorn ready!!! The scoreboard will definitely be put to use in this game as all three of these guys can flat-out score. We will get the answer to the question is 2 better then 1???

2) Cavs versus Pacers- Please Pacers show up cause if you don‘t the Cavs have the talent to set a CFC record for points scored in a game.

3) Kevin Causley vs. Basil Duncantell- My number 1 and 2 rated forwards in the league face off. Will there be a shake-up in my forward rankings come next week? Should be fun!

4) Watching a B league game- I don‘t know if its because of the coverage they get on the website or if it‘s the cheering section they get but those b games seem like a fun time. Definitely got to check one out this week.

5) Marco Price versus Mike Floyd- Two extremely talented guards who do everything for their respective teams. In my opinion the best defensive player (Mike Floyd) versus the best offensive player (Marko Price). If you like good basketball don‘t miss this match-up!!!

Fab Five Underrated players:

1) Calvin Evans (Sonics)- Can score driving to the rack or shooting the J. With so many talented guards in the league this year its easy to forget about him. Don‘t though cause Calvin can flat-out ball!!!

2) Mike McDonald (Cavs)- His ability to play bigger then his size, 6‘1”, was vital to the Cavs going 2-0 week 1. If there was a 6th man of the year award he would be my early favorite. His ability to score without dominating the ball is significant for a Cavs team that starts 3 guards.

3) Marc Henkel (Celtics)- Have you ever wondered what it is like to run into a brick wall? Well drive down the lane against the Celtics and you will find out. Marc‘s size, 6‘7” 300 plus pounds, allows him to have an impact on a game even though it may not show up in the box score.

4) Andy Shin (Wizards)- Does all the dirty work that other guys don‘t want to do. Unselfish, rebounds and play tough defense. It‘s what got him a championship trophy last year and will hopefully lead the Wizards to one this year.

5) Dae Kang (Lakers)- Love his game. He isn‘t intimated by anyone. I mean how tall is that guy yet he can score around the basket or from the perimeter. He is the classic example of the guy who looks like the water boy so you don‘t respect him and he drops 20 on you. I believe he will emerge as the second option for the Lakers and they will become a threat for the championship.

A League Week 1 Power Rankings

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

By: Da Scout

San Antonio Spurs (2-0): If you listen real closely you can hear a net snapping somewhere from another Spurs jumper falling! Those guys can flat-out shoot and though it is early to say a team is the "favorite" Who we kidding it's never to early! The Spurs are my favorites to win the 2009 CFC summer league Championship. The combination of Mike Ward and Quentin Robbins deadly shooting on the perimeter along with the bruising defense and rebounding from Olugbemige Adekunle make them very difficult to beat. If their bench can continue to contribute as they did in the first 2 games we may be all playing for second place.

Playoff Outlook: CFC Finals

Cleveland Cavaliers (2-0): With easily the best 3 guard combo in CFC, Toray Reynolds/James Brown/ Jeramie Barker, the Cavs head coach Nick Shaner might want to change their team name to the Fighting Illini. Though they lack a true big man they get excellent effort from Rod "Hot Rod" Smith and 6th man Mike McDonald. Whether their lack of big man will hurt them will be seen in due time but for now they will continue to use their speed and hustle to their advantage.

Playoff Outlook: CFC Finals

Washington Wizards (1-1): If there is a team that will stop a Spurs vs. Cavs final the Wizards have the championship ingredients to make that happen. Excellent shooters from the perimeter in Daniel "DJ" Jeong and Kenneth Moreland. Talented small forward in David Williams who can get you buckets from multiple spots on the floor. A center in Andy Shin who brings toughness and grit. Throw in an athletic power forward in Basil Duncantell who can score and rebound with anybody in the league one has to ask what could stop them? Well they currently lack an identity and even though they seemed to find it in their second game versus the Sonics they will need to maintain that if they want to be considered with the Cavs, Spurs and Celtics for the chip!

Playoff Outlook: CFC Semi- Finals

Boston Celtics (1-1): On paper they're loaded with very good players and if they continue to get an effort from Kevin Causley as they did in their game versus the Lakers, the Celtics will not only have the Offensive player of the year on their team but also a championship trophy. If you take Kevin, Marchond Hillsman and Marc Henkel the Celtics have easily the most dominant front line. Will "not the actor" Smith brings athleticism off the bench that few, if any, can match. If the Celtics can get consistent play from there backcourt of Sean Hampton and Charles Kim and continue to share the ball, we will be referring to them as the 2009 CFC champions Boston Celtics.

Playoff Outlook: CFC Semi- Finals

Los Angeles Lakers (1-1): Even though I don't have a vote if I did Marco "Kobe" Price is my favorite for Offensive player of the year. Marco not only made big shot after big shot in leading the Lakers to a split in their first two games, he also made everybody else on his team better with his play-making skills. With that said they need a big man badly and hopefully MC Neal arrives soon. They have all-stars in JJ Painter, Chris Norman and Dae Kang so the Lakers will not be a pushover. But to enter into the championship talk and rise in the Power Rankings they're going to have to figure out how to defend other teams bigs (ie; Kevin Causley stat line of the week).

Playoff Outlook: CFC First Round

Miami Heat (0-2): I know, I know...How does a team with no wins rank higher in my power rankings then a team with a win? Unlike Bill Parcells I don't believe "you are what your record says you are" and even though they are clearly not playing their best basketball I'm going to give them a week one mulligan. When a team has the leagues leading scorer in Rico Powell, arguably the best player in the league in Carlon Butler and a big man in Devin Johnson, it's not hard to have a little faith in them. On the other hand if the Heat come out with the same desire to play defense as I do to hear my wife recite why EVERY Sex in the City episode is her favorite ever then that faith won't save them next week from dropping in my Power Rankings. I believe they will find that desire and when they do don't be surprised to see the Miami Heat become a dangerous playoff team.

Playoff Outlook: CFC First Round

Seattle Supersonics (1-1): Seattle has talent but when that talent doesn't come out and compete from the opening tip you wind up at the bottom of the Power Rankings. Calvin Evans is pound for pound the best athlete in CFC. He showed this during stretches in both games during week 1. Seattle has a stable of athletic small forwards who are able to attack the rim and place the other team constantly on their heels. Unfortunately they have not been unable to find consistent play from them. If they find that consistency and a player to step up and knock down perimeter shots they can find themselves possibly winning a playoff game.

Playoff Outlook: CFC First Round

Indiana Pacers (0-2): Unfortunately someone has to be at the bottom of my Power Rankings following week 1 and the Pacers win the prize. With a long, athletic combo guard like Mike Floyd leading this team it hurts me to give them this ranking but unfortunately their lack of offense (20 ppg) and a point differential of negative 21 points leads me to believe that this could be a long four weeks for the Pacers. They must find a compliment player to Mike Floyd or coach Brian Royer might have to start scouting for the number 1 pick next year!

Playoff Outlook: And with the first pick in the 2010 the Pacers select...

B League Draft Grades

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

By: Ben "Big N Tasty" Kim

We anticipated this years draft to be the most exciting draft in recent memory, and sure enough it did not disappoint. With over 130 players signed up for B-league, a league record, every captain woke up Thursday morning anxious and even distressed. The draft will completely make or break your entire summer. A poor draft means that you have to suffer 4 grueling weeks of bad basketball, sleepless nights, and possibly massive hair loss. A successful draft can get you what every person in the league is playing for: the label of being a called the champs. Last year's, captain Ray Chung, got a couple steals in the 2nd and 3rd round, which led him to the championship. Everyone is looking for this year's Dave Cho or Peter Chung. Who will it be? As the captain/GM of your team, there is tremendous pressure. Do you take a PG in the first round or go big? Do you focus on defense or offense? Run and Gun or half court sets? Who the heck are Ben Carlson and Dylan Stradley (who both stand at 6'4)? Why don't I know 40% of the players that are signed up?!!! Every captain has had these thoughts over the past draining 72 hours. After careful examination for the past 30 minutes, I will give you an in-depth analysis on how each team drafted Thursday night.

Warriors: B
Identity: Size
X-factor: Mohamed Sokona, Ismail Balde
Steal: Issac Lee
Captain Yoon Ra took the greatest risk-reward guy in Mohamed Sokona. He's 6ft 1, long, athletic, and can play 3 different position including pg. On paper he's the best player in this draft and a lot weighs on his shoulders. He has a solid supporting cast, which includes Ismail Balde, who is coming off of a knee injury, rookie Phil Sung who is a center that can extend his range to the 3-point line, and veteran Issac Lee. The Warriors can definitely make some noise if the players play up to their potential.

Hornets: A-
Identity: Half-court defense, long and lanky
X-factor: James Mckinney, Jooho Yoon
Steal: Henny Wong
Captain Jooho Yoon is coming out of retirement to play in his last summer league. Everyone remembers the Jooho Yoon of 3 years ago when he was an unstoppable force, but some also remember the following year when he completely disappeared. This year, however, he has some help, especially on the defensive end. With John Lee and J-Mac daddy holding the paint, small Asian men don't stand a chance taking it in on them. On the perimeter, they have the lock down defense of Brian Cho and Wonkyo. In my opinion they have by far the peskiest, most balanced defense in the league. The hitch is that James Mckinney hasn't played competitive basketball in ages, and he has been bothered by several injuries due to drumming passionately on Paul Han's rock band. If he is healthy, he changes this entire team. However, they will compete with or with out him.

T'Wolves: B-
Identity: Quickness
X-factor: Karl Knox, Eunbum Lee
Steal: Eunbum Lee
Jed Hernandez picked up one of the best pure shooters in the league in Gunny Khang to go along with one of the quickest players in league, Itch Hung. However, what will make or break this team is whether they can defend the paint and rebound the basketball. The weight is on Karl and Eunbum's shoulders to carry the load. Without a legit center to play the paint, they will have to hope to force a lot of turnovers to run the fast break.

Mavericks: B-
Identity: Question marks
X-factor: Jae Ha Ryu, Cellum Chia
Steal: Joe Lee
If someone told you that they had drafted one of the most talented players in the entire league in the late first round, called the player because he was so overjoyed, found out that he had broken his arm 4 days ago so wasn't going to play, had to come back and draft out of order, and drafted a player he had no idea for the first pick, and all this happened with in 5 minutes, would you believe him? Well, all captain Ben Kim was thinking after the unlikely incident was how to phrase this scenario to put on FML.com. He had dreamt of a perfect team, was so close to getting it, and saw it fall apart. Sad. The success of this team will depend on the two players he has never seen play before. Jae Ha Ryu and Cellum Chia has been highly rated by Ben Kim's various scouts, but he will have to adapt and build chemistry quick if they want to compete.

Bulls: A Identity: Veterans savvy, years and years of chemistry of Sean and P. Jung
X-factor: Brent Moore, Eddie Kim
Steal: DK Kim
Co-captains Sean Lee and Pastor Jung Lee did a solid job finding the pieces that will fit the chemistry that the two built up over the past couple decades. Having by far the highest average age of any pairing, they possess the veteran knowledge necessary to go all the way. The question is, do they have the legs? No one really knows the true ages of P. Jung and Sean Lee (they do a great job looking and acting young), but if their bodies can follow the knowledge they have, with the deadly 3 point eye of Eddie Kim and the big man inside, they can be the favorite to win it all.

Suns: B+
Identity: Defense
X-factor: Joe Kim & Paul Ahn's conditioning and playing shape after extended pre draft camp in the Bahamas.
Steal: Tim Ro
It is a proven fact that people have to prepare physically and mentally before a big event. Exams, interviews, spiritual events are all events where people do whatever they do to prepare themselves. Joe Kim and Paul Ahn are preparing on the beach of the Bahamas, sipping on ice tea and eating endless seafood buffets. Will this affect the play of these players? No one can say. However, if Joe Kim and Paul Ahn come back like Eddy Curry does every non-contract year for his NBA teams, Seong Lee can be in some trouble. He is arguably the most dominant player on both sides of the floor and he's good enough to carry his team to victory with a bunch of elementary school kids, but to go all the way, the offensive production of Joe Kim and the rebounding/intangibles of Paul Ahn are vital to the Suns success.

Magic: A+
Identity: Chemistry
X-factor: James Lee's play making ability
Steal: Matt Lee (both)
James 'Tank' Lee used his jedi mind tricks on the entire summer league staff to acquire the highly skilled Paul Han. With the front court of Tank, Paul, and Bennett Parkhurst, they have the skills and the size to dominate any team in the league. Plus James focused his drafting around his own skill sets, getting the perfect players that will compliment his game. If his plan works, they are the favorites to win it, but the pressure is on James!!! Your jedi mind tricks won't work no more!

Sixers: B
Identity: Versatility
X-factor: Ben Carlson, Inkee Jeon
Steal: Joo Young Kim
Inkee Jeon has been asking every captain to draft him as a starter, most of them have refused, but it seems like he will finally have a chance to compete for a starting position. If Inkee can display the different array of skill he showed on the Mexico missions trip 2 years ago, he can possibly be a very good pick up for Sae Han. Ben Carlson is a 6ft 4 center that no one has no idea bout, but with that size he can only help a team in a every way. Overall a decent draft for Sae Han.

Grizzlies: A-
Identity: Balanced offense
X-factor: 3 point shooting
Steal: Mike Zhong, Rich Park
I really like this team. They have the purest PG in the league in John Kim, various out shooters in Rich Park, P. Jong, and Mike Zhong, and a legit PF in Alex Park, and a defensive force in the paint in Ike. If you are open, John Kim will find you. It is everyone else's job to make the shots.

Nuggets: B-
Identity: Sam Ham
X-factor: Sam Ham
Steal: Charlie Wan
I predict Sam Ham to be triple teamed every single game. Despite the atrocity, I also predict Sam to score at least 15 points every single game. There is no player in this league that can stop Sam's dribble right fading pull up jumper. His hops, his release, and his touch are things that are hard to find even in the A-league. What Sam needs are guys who can rebound for him, but Steve Um went a different route and drafted for speed. The gamble might work b/c players such as Josh Chung and Charlie Wan can be very effective in that system, but I'm not convinced on paper.

Thunder: B
Identity: Guard Play
X-factor: Vince Lee, Andrew Oh
Steal: John Paik
Captain Brian Cho struck gold in getting long time captain/lottery talent in John Paik. This gives them a sick three-guard rotation of John, Brian Cho, and Jong Park. This is the best back court in the league, but the problem is the lack of size. It is vital that both Vince and Andrew play they play big, especially on defense.

Raptors: B
Identity: Aggressiveness
X-factor: Josh Cho, Enoch Ahn
Steal: Chris Ning
The team looks solid on paper. They have speed, shooting, heart, and a big man in the middle. However, the Achilles heel for this team is experience. They have several rookies, and their go to guy is 2nd year guard Sammy Yoo. If this was a pick up game, this team will win a lot of games, but we'll have to see if this team will bring it where it counts.

Rockets: B+
Identity: Solid all around
X-facotr: Joe Chen, Baochau Trang, Daniel Park
Steal: Joe Chen
Fanny drafted a well-balanced squad that will be able to compete with anyone. They have versatile big men in DP and Chris Cho, and the scrappy defense of Joe Chen. The question is if they can score when it really counts. With out a true go to scorer, they will have to rely on ball movement to score in late games. Fanny has a lot on his shoulders, and we'll see if he'll respond.

Hawks: B
Identity: Fast break
X-factor: Elmo Chae
Steal: Christopher Chou
Dave Yu landed the most coveted player in the draft. Tim Wang. The man is a scoring machine, and he can straight put the ball in the bucket in variety of ways. The Hawks have a good supporting cast around him that will be great for Tim's game. Running and gunning. If you don't watch out this team wills straight run you out the gym. They will struggle to find offense in the half-court set, but if they keep running, they should be fine.

Trailblazers: A-
Identity: Penetration and kick
X-factor: Out side shooting,
Steal: Paul Toh
The Trailblazers star player, Davin Cho can do it all. Think of T-mac when he was with the Orlando magic. He is a natural scorer, but he will be challenged to do a lot more on this team. If you can stop Davin, you have a good chance beating this team, but Alex drafted shooters around him that will help open up the lane for him. The pressure is on Paul Toh, Alex Joe, and even Peter Chung to knock down the open shots, b/c they will surely get plenty of looks.

Knicks: A-
Identity: Pressure Defense, Fast Break
X-factor: John (Hong Kong) Kim
Steal: Dong Hoon Lee
Ray built a team will choke you with their pressure defense. Kyeon Heo, John Kim, Dong Hoon Lee, David Song are relentless on defense and won't ever give up on a ball. Think of five Andres Nocioni's on the court at the same time and you can get a decent picture of what the intensity is like. Ray and Dong Hoon will have to play big against several bigger players, but no one should over look them b/c of their size, b/c you will surely regret it.

Top Draft Prospects by Position B League

Disclaimer: The following article does not reflect general view/opinion of CFC Summer League. They have been written by members for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

by Paul Ahn

These players were chosen from a list of names without sufficient information to make completely accurate judgments for each position. Some players that should be on this list might not have made it as a result of a lack of familiarity or other reasons. However, each player on this list is more than serviceable in their respective positions and should do fine as a 1st round selection.

Point Guards

  1. Paul Toh- Paul Toh is as quick as they come. He tops off the list of point guards for his all around play on both ends of the court. On offense, his quickness, ball handling ability, and surprising lower body strength allow Paul to get into the lane and from there, he has a good feel of when to dish it, shoot it, or lay it up. PT pretty much offers the same thing on defense as well. His quickness and strength make it hard for any point guard to get past him and what's more, he has great hands so he generates a lot of loose ball opportunities. As a point, Paul also does a good job contributing on the boards as well.
  2. Matt Lee- Pesky, feisty, and scrappy... the first 3 words that come to mind when I think of Matt Lee. I put Matt in the 2 slot for point guards because of his defense. He plays great on-ball-defense and even better help D. He has great lateral quickness and changes directions with fluidity, so unless you are an elite point guard, you won't be doing too well against Matt. And though Matt won't woo you too often on offense, he won't make you cringe much either. He makes his jump shots and doesn't commit too many turnovers.
  3. Elmo Chae- The basis of Elmo's game is what you would want in any role player. He won't commit turnovers, plays good perimeter on-ball-defense, and has a solid understanding of the game-knowing where to be and when to be there. Recently, however, he has added some confidence to his above average mid-range jump shot and he is attacking the basket more, which is good because he can finish. If you want a point guard that won't quit on a play, won't complain, and will play team ball, Elmo is your man.

Shooting Guards

  1. Wongkyo Jung- A proven winner and a proven team baller, Wongkyo is a border line lottery talent. He has point guard-like abilities and has great shooting touch as well. Though he isn't overwhelmingly powerful and isn't lightning quick, he has a good sense of how to attack his defender to get himself good opportunities to finish at the rim. He is just all around on offense. Kyo is also a very committed defender as well. He wants to shut his man down and he wants to take the ball from you, but won't commit too many fouls in the process.
  2. Ismail Balde- Ismail is more of a physical specimen than anything. He is quick, fast, strong (not just for his size), and athletic. But even so, he uses his physical tools to get the job done. He gets to the basket and can create his own jump shot. Though he isn't the greatest ball handler and isn't known for his play making abilities, those skills are still there, it's just a matter of his willingness to implement them as a consistent part of his game. He isn't really known for his on-ball D either, but has the quickness to stay in front of anyone and his help D is good too.
  3. Sammy Yoo- Sammy is a gifted combination player that has a pretty complete offense repertoire. He has a good mid-range jump shot, can take it to the basket, and will make the occasional 3 ball. Sammy can play in a half court set but is generally more effective in a run and gun style offense. Since last summer, Sammy has also put on some weight via hitting the gym extremely hard core so he can muscle his way to the rim with accountant like efficiency. He's huge. He has adequate foot speed so he has the capability to stay in front of most people and does an above average job on the boards for his position.

Small Forwards

  1. Alex Nikolaev- Alex is a European legend. He has lottery talent on the offensive end, but only when the ball is in his hands. When he does have the ball, he has a great drive and a good shot. But what makes his offense click is his use of ball, body, and head fakes. He has a very complete set of offensive moves, skills, and is surprisingly athletic. Alex also understands how an offense should run and can attack from anywhere on the court. His defense is adequate.
  2. Gunny Khang- I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason Gunny just looks like a player from the 80's... an old school baller. He was a lottery last year and very easily could have been this year as well. His ability to drive and ability to drive and dish all come as a result of defenders having to pay respect to his jump shot. Gunny is the type of player that makes everyone around him better because he is talented, yet unselfish... commands an offense, yet encourages... and plays defense with tenacity and fire, yet offers a hand to help you up. If you aren't sure what your pairing needs in terms of position or size, Gunny is a safe pick for almost anything other than center.
  3. John Paik- Any discussion of the self-proclaimed, JP3, starts on the defensive end. John isn't extraordinarily quick or strong, but has a high defensive IQ which helps his defense to be solid in all respects. He defends well at almost any position, he creates a lot of turnovers (and knows what to do with the ball after), and is an above average rebounder. He's usually a role player on offense, but that doesn't mean he doesn't, and won't, contribute. He has a good 3 ball and isn't scared to take it. He has does a good job finishing around the rim. Best of all on offense, he doesn't make stupid plays.

Power Forwards

  1. Pawl Ahn- Just think of Paul Millsap. Undersized power forward with a midrange shot quickly developing. Paul brings many qualities to the court. Whether it is lock down defense, strong post presence or being a great pick setter, he always brings 100% to every game. Best of all, he never quits on any play.
  2. Chris Cho- Chris always had the physical tools to be a great low post defender. Height and length, definitely the size, and great functional strength. His lack of basketball smarts used to hinder him at times, but he has developed an adequate understanding of the game, or at least knows now what is expected of him. He is a great rebounder and alters shots, though he won't block too many. His low post-defense is a bit unproven, but unless his opponent is an extremely crafty, skilled post player, people will generally struggle to score on him. People definitely won't be able to muscle their way for a bucket down low.
  3. Ike Ijari- Ike brings great size to this position. He is well built on a strong frame and has athleticism. He is faster than he is quick and has some hustle to go with that muscle too. His defense isn't as versatile as his you would think, but should be just fine playing the low-middle position in a 2-3 zone or guarding other big men man-to-man. He rebounds very well on both ends of the floor and puts it back up. He won't commit too many turnovers and will hit his uncontested mid-range jumpers.

Center

  1. Ben Carlson & Dylan Stradley- I have a confession to make... other than the rumors I catch floating around, I have no knowledge of these guys... other than the fact that they are BOTH 6'4'' and weigh a combined 425 pounds!!! You do the math... BUT, they are tied for the top spots for a reason. Last year, rebounding leader, Bennet Parkhurst (read below) killed on the boards. Bennett is 6'3'' and a modest 180 with moderate athleticism. If they have any understanding of the game, any will to compete, and hint of athleticism, they both should be forces to reckon with. But word on the street is that they DO have experience and quite a bit of it as well... they could potentially be extremely dominant forces on both ends of the court. I think... the benefits definitely outweigh the costs. Take a risk...
  2. Bennet Parkhurst- As mentioned before, Bennet Parkhurst was last years draft gem. He was pretty much unknown, yet rose to the top of the rebounding list (after some pretty impressive week 1 performances) and did an adequate job altering shots on defense. His offense isn't exactly spectacular, but he is efficient, won't commit too many turnovers, and isn't looking to be the focal point of the offense, he's unselfish. Good teammate, nice kid.
  3. Peter Chung- Peter is the consummate team player. He tries his best on every play, boxes out, doesn't look to fill the stat sheet, and doesn't complain. He will need someone there to tell him what to do, especially on free throw situations ("what? One and one? What? Double bonus? Huh?") but with a strong leader, who won't get angry, he will do all the little things that help a team win, and he has the hardware to prove it... a big CFC 2008 B League Champions Bobble Head Trophy.
