![]() Week One | Week Two | Week Three | Play-Off Updates Much excitement was in the air as Saturday evening finally came. Players made their way to WIMPE starting at 7pm, 2 hours prior to tournament time with eager expectation for this much anticipated tournament. The night was filled with the usual performances from Veterans like KJ Kim, Al Navata, Dennis Hong, Angelo Deguzman, etc., but the games that were greatly anticipated were for the first views of possible sleeper picks like Jeff Ma, Cory Funk, Mark Glanton, Tom Costello, Scott Roschelle, etc. Some games, as expected went to a free throw shoot-out, so keep working on them teams! Overall, the first night of our annual Summerleague went smooth, instructions were followed and from what I could see, everyone had a good time. Captains, keep up the good work of giving out PT and being examples out there on the court. And players, keep playing hard! All of you guys make this league work! Please do not hesitate to come to any of the staff members with questions and/or suggestions and we look forward to seeing you all in two weeks! So be prepared. Written By Parker Yi Team UpdatesTeam Aurum Laguna Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 13th Place (Previous Week: n/a)
Aurum led his team to a 1-1 record
this week. It could have been 2-0 but a last second
three pointer by Ben Bodensteiner(14 points, 18
rebounds) just came away short. David Hyun(9 points)
and Martin Lee(12 points) were major contributors, as
well as solid play from William Harrington(4 points, 5
rebounds) Team Dae Wong Kang Record: 2-0 | Overall Team Ranking: 2nd Place (Previous Week: n/a) Is it us or does Dae Woung always start out 2-0? He had his usual stats with 20 points and 7 rebounds. But Kevin Bauer(6 points, 6 rebounds) and Lawrence Tai(5 points, 6 rebounds) helped them to a undeated record. Team Dan Song Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 11th Place (Previous Week: n/a) They went 1-1 but very well could have been 0-2 if not for the game winning free throw in an overtime shootout by James Lee. Joe Jun(13 points had a solid game but the suprise player was Cory Funk(21 points, 11 rebounds). This team plays very good defense and so they should do much better the next time. And don't think that they can't score, once they learn how to play together the points should easier. Team Dave Kang Record: 0-2 | Overall Team Ranking: 19th Place (Previous Week: n/a) They went 0-2 in two very close games. Don't expect this team to be in the bottom for too long with Chang Sik Hwang(12 points, 18 rebounds) and Dave Shin(9 points). Jason Baker(8 points, 6 rebounds) and Michael Jung(7 points, 5 rebounds) supported the team very well. But will David Kang be able to lead his team to victory? Team Ho Young Moon Record: 2-0 | Overall Team Ranking: 4th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Ho Young led his team to a 2-0 record. Al Navata might be making a case for player of the year with 27 points. He carried the team much of the night, but James 'Goldeneye' Kim was able to help out with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Team Hyung Ro Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 14th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Hyung Ro led his team to a respectable 1-1 record. He was missing a couple players but Charles Han (22 points) and Marques Pearson(12 points, 8 rebounds) picked up the slack for them. Hyung continued his injury streak by spraining his ankle. Will he be able to stay healthy at all this summer? He might have to change his name to Grant Hill. Jin Kim also had a solid night with 7 points and 8 rebounds. He might be the next coming of Fat Lever. Team P. Jong Park Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 12th Place (Previous Week: n/a) They went 1-1 but they showed definite promise. This week they were missing their top players Pastor Jung and Heath Lord. But they might have this year's sleeper in Marc Glanton(17 points, 8 rebounds). Pat Yoon is not fully recovered but still had 17 rebounds. It's scary to think what he could have done healthy. Peter Chung helped by making a game winning free throw in a shootout after they tied in regulation. Team Kenny Kim Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 8th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Kenny's team came away 1-1 in a very hard bracket. This team is very balanced and unselfish. Ki Kim(14 points, 10 rebounds) and Mike Illuzi(10 points, 13 rebounds) had solid games for their team. But their team will heat up once the shooting of Pastor Min(13 points) and Kenny Kim(7 points) come around. And it's not an issue of if, but when. Team Kevin J. Kim Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 9th Place (Previous Week: n/a) KJ's team came away with a 1-1 record, but this team looks really good. KJ (26 points) is a force as usual, but combine him with Kevin Ward(11 points, 14 rebounds) and they might be the best inside duo. And don't count out Jinbae Park. Remember he led his team last year to the finals and he can do the same again. Team Lester Cruzat Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 6th Place (Previous Week: n/a) This week they went 1-1in two rugged matches. They have a very good inside rebounding team led by MC Neal(21 points, 10 rebounds) and Henrey Cho(10 rebounds). John Lee went nuts in a 5 minute span by scoring 10 points. He has greatly improved and should be able to keep up the scoring. Fadi Asadi also contrbuted with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Team Matt Lee Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 16th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Team Matt Lee- They went 1-1, but they are a team that is starting to gel. It starts with the man in the middle, Tom Costello(14 points, and 10 rebounds). Gerald Huang(6 points) had an off night shooting wise, but still helped by controlling the offense. You know that won't happen two weeks in a row. Edgar Benitez(6 points, 7 rebounds) says he hasn't played in a while, but to us he looked really good. Scary to think what'll happen if he could get back to his old self. This team will be on the lookout to improve once Steve Roeckeman returns. Team Mike Park Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 15th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Their captain might have been missing this week, but they were still able to go 1-1. They are a very balanced team and once Mike comes back they should have all the pieces to the puzzle. Bruce Latimer (8 points, 9 rebounds) and Kyung Kim(10 points) picked up the slack most of the night. But Jeetae Suh(9 points, 6 rebounds) and Chris Anello(7 points, 7 rebounds) showed they came to play as well. Team Min Kim Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 10th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Team Min had an alright day, but don't count this team out yet. Jeff Ma carried them much of the night with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Once John Lee and Dennis Cho make their presence known, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Will Min Kim be able to lead them like Baron Davis, or will he be more like Charlie Ward. Team Peter Min Record: 2-0 | Overall Team Ranking: 1st Place (Previous Week: n/a) They went 2-0 this week even with the absence of Wayne Ha. Benjamin Sanders(21 points, 13 rebounds) led this team. But they have very good supporting players in Mookie Lee(9 points, 5 rebounds), Matt Core(6 points, 8 rebounds), Jeff Feng(7 rebounds) and Jim Han(6 points, 4 rebounds) Once Peter gets going and Wayne returns, they will only get better. Team Rich Woo Record: 0-2 | Overall Team Ranking: 1st Place (Previous Week: n/a) Rich Woo's team went 0-2 but don't count them out just yet. They were missing a couple of key players-Vytas Jurjonas and Tom Kim. Rich tried to carry the team with 28 points but it wasn't enough. They just weren't big enough inside to counter the other teams. But they might have the best guard depth in the league. Ted Cho (4points), James Lee(8 points), Mike So(4 points), and Mike Yoo(8 points) are good role players who should make a difference down the line. Team Sam Huh Record: 0-2 | Overall Team Ranking: 18th Place (Previous Week: n/a) They might have gone 0-2, but they are a quick fun team to watch. Wung Chung had an awesome night with 23 points and Ron Choi was able to step up with 8 points and 6 rebounds. But for this team to do better, John Chung will need to score more points. And you know he will in time, he's too good not to. Team Sean Lee Record: 2-0 | Overall Team Ranking: 3rd Place (Previous Week: n/a) They went 2-0 by using their workhorse Scott Roschelle(21 points, 12 rebounds) He will be one of the candidates for sleeper fo the year, if not player of the year if he keeps this up. It's scary to think what this team can really do since Joel Park had to leave early and Sak Lee sprained his ankle. Don't worry about Sak, he's also the team doctor so he should be okay for next time. Team Youssef Elias Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 7th Place (Previous Week: n/a) This week they did alright with a 1-1 record. They're still trying to find the right mix of players to play but there were a couple of strong performances by Charles Lee(13 points, 3 rebounds) and Chris Roney(9 points, 5 rebounds). Al Kim was his usual tough monkey self with 7 rebounds and 6 points and Youssef had a solid game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. But for this team to win, these two will need to become more dominant. It's still early though. Team Zion Park Record: 1-1 | Overall Team Ranking: 5th Place (Previous Week: n/a) Team Zion Park- They were missing their captain but still came away 1-1. Andrew Yee(15 points, 17 rebounds) was the star of the team, but they also had many surprises. Joetah Park(11 points) and Kyu Chang(17 points) showed that they can be counted on to score. Bohr Young Tsao provided good defense with 10 rebounds. When Zion comes back they will be a good team. |
