![]() "I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don't do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results." - Michael Jordan I would like to thank all the players that showed up this weekend to play their hearts out despite the 100 degree weather at Kenney Gym that they have to overcome. It goes to show that basketball is only played for the love of the game. If I could, I would like to give everyone props and make them players of the week because looking at all the stats, everyone played an important role in helping their team. This week was really tough, but I chose 5 players to represent some of the quality players that are in this league. Congratulations. *The stats are based on 2 game totals played up to 30 points. The stats may not be 100% accurate. But it's close and serves its purpose. WEEK ONE TOP PERFORMERS | WEEK TWO TOP PERFORMERS | WEEK THREE TOP PERFORMERS
Charles Han (Team Hyung Ro)He is continuing to improve each week and is leading the team in scoring. With Hyung Ro's injury during the first week, he stepped up to help his team land a 5th seed in the play-offs. It was hard to go unnoticed with numbers like this: 20 points, 4 steals, 1 assist, 10 boards and 2 blocks. He is the x-factor in how far the team will go. He's proven that he can output these kind of numbers in any circumstances...for that, you are the player of the week.
John Lee (Team Lester Cruzat)He could've easily given up this week. With another week of absence from their main player M.C. Neal, he remained focused and stepped up to contribute in all areas. John Lee's proven that he can do a little bit of everything: run the ball, play D, shoot, and drive to the basket. He's stepping up a notch higher from being a role player to a star player. He spent most of his college career being shadowed by his brother Sean but now he's got his own identity and is making a name for himself. Due to his relentless effort, their team went 2-0. His numbers: 15 points, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 5 boards. It may not be alot compared to some other players of the week, but it's those intangibles that he contributes to his team to help them win.
Steve Roeckman (Team Matt Lee)For awhile, we thought he was just a ghost. No one knew who he was. Then he made his first grand appearance this past saturday night. And what an appearance that was. He was the missing factor that his team needed to push them to the next level. With him at the backcourt, I can see this team's stocks going on. He had Dennis Rodman-esque like rebounds (23 to be exact) in just 2 games. That's more boards than an entire team gets in one game. He didn't just end there. He also converted some of those offensive rebounds for 16 points. He also marked 1 assist, 1 steal, and a block. He will be exciting to watch during the playoffs. Congratulations.
Heath Lord (Team P.Jong Park)Heath is no surprise to this league. He's already proven that he can play and is already on his way to becoming one of the veterans in this league. With many scorers on his team, it's hard for him to get many touches. He stil managed to get 17 points, and 7 rebounds. But what stands out the most from him last week is the game winning fadeaway turnaround 3 pointer (there was no three pointers last week, but it was far enough to be considered as a three) that he nailed with time running down that helped their team go 2-0 and ultimately land the no.1 seeding for the play offs. Last year his team lost in the quarter finals when Patrick Young hit the last second three pointer to knock them out. So Heath is hungrier to win the coveted title. We'll see how he does next week. For now, congratulations on being the player of the week.
Matt Core (Team Peter Min)Not many people know that Matt Core used to be a triathlon athlete. He's also a good looking guy (not as good looking as his brother who is a professional model). It's unfortunate that we don't have a picture of him to see what he looks like. Just picture a bald-headed raging bull just charging at you if you want to get an idea of what facing Matt Core is like. He's got the strength of a brut beast but has the graceful finesse like a swan gliding on the lake. Only weakness I see in him is that he can't back up his trash talk (0-2 record) which could be his downfall. But overall, he's got other numbers(18 points, 1 assist, 3 steals, 12 rebounds) to prove that he deserves to be the player of the week. |
