COMPLETE PLAY-OFF COVERAGE ![]() Playoff Results - Winners are underlined WILD CARD MATCHUP - 18. Team Kevin J. Kim vs 19. Team Dave Kang (30-19) This was a battle of the little men as Chang Sik was not able to make it due to a work conflict. Even with the return of Jinbae Park(13 points), Team KJ was not able to overcome Team Dave Kang as they lost by a score of 30-19. Jason Baker(9 points) and Eddie Lee(8 points) led Team Dave in scoring. WILD CARD MATCHUP - 16. Team Zion Park vs 17. Team Matt Lee (20-20, OT 4-3) Team Zion Park has been winning games with last second shots and this one was similar when Kyu Chang hit a game tying three pointer with the clock running out. But it came down to fundamentals as Team Matt Lee won on a free throw shootout. WILD CARD MATCHUP - 14. Team Peter Min (30-16) vs 15. Team Sam Huh Team Sam Huh had another history making night as they played four on four to accomodate for the missing players on Team Peter Min. Even without their captain present, Team Peter Min managed to pull together and come up with a win. The combo of Benjamin "Frankie Williams" Sanders(11 points) and Matt Core(9 points) was just too much. Jim Han and Victor Chang contributed with a total of 10 points. FIRST ROUND - 1. Team P. Jong Park (28-21) vs 18. Dave Kang There has been many surprised upsets in the past at Summer League tournaments. A no.1 seeded team has been knocked out in the first round before. But it didn't happen this game. Inside presence created by Marc Glanton/Heath Lord and three-headed sharp shooting "Parks" (Jason, Jong, and P.Jong) was too much for Team Dave who was missing their star player. Although they gave their best and it was close for much of the game, Team P. Jong pulled away with an eventual win. FIRST ROUND - 2. Team P. Ho Young Moon vs 17. Team Matt Lee (30-20) With their full roster set, we knew Team Matt was going to cause havoc. This was a suprise win by Team Matt as they played a box and one on Al Navata. Al has been carrying this team the whole season but tonight it was too much load for his shoulders to carry. Gerald Huang caught fire and no one could stop Steve Roekeman to lead them to a 30-20 win. Steve Roeckeman was just too much with 17 points and 7 rebounds. It has been exciting watching Team Ho Young, or I should say Al Navata, pull off win after win during this season. FIRST ROUND - 3. Team Min Kim (18-18, OT 4-3) vs 14. Peter Min Their captain returned on time for this game from Chicago. But driving around all day made Peter somewhat tired as he didn't look himself out on the court. Team Peter Min looked like they could have been the cinderella team as they tied Team Min 18-18 in regulation. But they were unable to pull it off as they lost in the free throw shoot out 4-3. Matt Core(11 points) and Jeff Ma(9 points) led both their teams in scoring. FIRST ROUND - 4. Team Sean Lee (30-17) vs 13. Team Lester Cruzat Without MC Neal, this game played like the first time they met as Team Sean beat Team Lester by a score of 30-17. Joel Park shot the lights out in this game with 16 points. Although Sak didn't produce that much numbers in the stats column, he reminded his younger cousin Henry who the real boss is. But we have to give Team Lester some mad props for the way the held together as a team even without their star M.C. Neal. They kept their heads up high and fought until the end. Teams like this define passion and love for basketball. FIRST ROUND - 5. Team Hyung Ro vs 12. Team Mike Park (22-16) Team Mike Park had a well-balanced attack and team chemistry to defeat Team Hyung by a score of 22-16. You can tell by the score that this was a game of defense. Joe Yoon caught fire and helped the team win with 5 points. Jin and Marquese started out shooting well, but veteran captain Mike adjusted their defense to stop their outside game. Charles Han was held scoreless which was very unusal. FIRST ROUND - 6. Team Kenny Kim/P.Min (31-27) vs 11. Team Aurum Laguna This was a revenge match made for Team Aurum as Team P.Min sneaked away with a win last week. Team Aurum started out well and had an early 19-12 lead. Pastor Min, the veteran shooting/point guard of this league, started their comeback by shooting 3 for 3 three pointers. This was one of the better games in the first round as Team Pastor Min was able to squeak by Team Aurum with a score of 31-27. Kenny Kim won the game when he shot a jumper as time ran out. Mike Illuzi led both teams with 13 points. FIRST ROUND - 7. Team Dan Song (26-18) vs 10. Team Dae Woung Kang Team Dan defeated Team Dae Woung 26-18 as it came down to the supporting players who pulled it out for Team Dan. Cory Funk continued to raise his stock as the sleeper of the year award by leading Team Dan with 8 points. James Tank Lee also contributed with 6 points. Team Dae Woung couldn't find an answer for Team Dan's tenacious defense as 5 of their players was held scoreless. FIRST ROUND - 8. Team Rich Woo vs 9. Team Youssef Elias (23-22) This game was a close all the way to the end. Both teams attacked the basket and fought for every point. Youssef, Chuckie, Chris Roney, and Meng provided for all their points while Tom Kim led his team with 12 points. Team Rich was leading by 2 with about 3 seconds left. Team Youssef had the ball and inbounded it to Charlie Lee. He backed up hit a 30 foot shot at the buzzer to win the game by one. QUARTER FINALS - 1. Team P.Jong Park (23-22) vs 9. Team Youssef Elias Fueled by Chuckie's game winning shot, Team Youssef started out well hoping for another upset. This was another close game but Team P. Jong won by a score of 22-17. Pastor Jung Lee, Jong Park, and Heath Lord scored total of 20 points to put an end to Team Youssef's cinderalla run. QUARTER FINALS - 4. Team Sean Lee (25-22) vs 12. Team Mike Park It was close much throughout the game but Scott "Baby Shaq" Rochelle was just too big as Team Sean beat Team Mike by a score of 25-22. Bruce Latimer led the team with 11 points and 6 rebounds. But just like Michael Jordan the team soon realized that you can't just depend on one person to win the game. Ali Asadi, Sak, and Joel Park stepped up and scored 16 points total. Joe Yoon almost became a hero making a three at the end to tie the game. But the shot was waived off as he was half-second too late. QUARTER FINALS - 7. Team Dan Song (30-17) vs 17. Team Matt Lee Team Matt had made an impressive run but it ended here as the defense of Team Dan Song enforced by Johnny Kim and Joe Jun was just too good to give them a 30-17 win. Cory Funk had another all around game with 13 points. QUARTER FINALS - 7. Team Min Kim (28-26) vs 17. Team P.Min/Kenny Team Min went to an early 10-0 run but Team Pastor Min didn't give up and fought back to just a 2 point deficit. For awhile, it looked like Team Pastor Min was going to walk away with another close game. But Jeff Ma and John "Trusoljah" Lee made sure this didn't happen to them. They had a chance to tie as Pastor Min was fouled as time ran out, but he missed the front end of a one and one to end the game. Perhaps someone should have challenged him gatorde for motivation. SEMI-FINALS - 4. Team Sean Lee (29-24) vs 1. Team P.Jong Pastor Jong was leading by one with a minute left but Joel Park went on a tear to score the next 7 points to give Team Sean the victory. It reminded you of Reggie Miller when he scored 9 points against Knicks in less than 15 seconds during the 1997 play-offs. Marc Glanton had 13 points in this game to keep it close but Sean Lee(9 points) and Joel Park(9 points) were too much for them. SEMI-FINALS - 3. Team Min Kim (26-23) vs 7. Team Dan Song This game kept on going back and forth but Team Min was able to pull it out by hitting their free throws to win 26-23. Cory Funk had another MVP-like stats with 15 points. Joe Jun had a chance to tie it but missed a last second shot from half court, also missing his chance at MVP. FINALS - 3. Team Min Kim (31-16) vs 4. Team Sean Lee The finals looked to be good but ended in a blowout as Team Min won 31-16. Team Sean was too off this game as they couldn't hit their three's like they usually do. Joel Park, a normal 55 percent three point shooter, went 0-7 from the arc. Jeff Ma and John Lee were too much as they both pounded inside for 10 points each. Scott Roeschelle was the only offensive factor in Sean's team with 10 points but their chances were severely hurt when he fouled out of the game. |
