SEMINARS

Knowing God’s Will, Reverend John Chong

Children are often asked this question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Over the years, this question can develop into quite a confusing dilemma. As we approach our young adult years, we are filled with questions like, "What career path should I follow?" "Who should I marry?" "Where should I live?" Do I have any real choices in my life or is it all just destiny?" In this seminar, we will offer both a biblical and a practical perspective on this important topic of knowing God's will.

Kingdom Calling, Reverend Mitch Kim
Does our worship on Sunday care transform our lives from Monday to Friday? Jesus taught us to pray, "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Matt 6:10) until "the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ" (Rev 11:15). We have a kingdom calling-- not simply to endure the realities of earth until we make it to heaven but to transform the realities of earth by the powers of the kingdom of heaven. This seminar will bring a biblical understanding to our calling (vocation) in the world, whether we are called to be a missionary or master chef, a pastor or professor, a home builder or homemaker.

Burnout Prevention, Pastor Mike Park
In Exodus 20 God gave Israel the 10 Commandments as covenant stipulations or requirements that defined the kind of life the Lord calls His people to live before Him and with each other. Even a quick glance over the short list of commands shows that God is not only concerned about the spiritual aspect of an individual but the individual as a whole – physical, emotional/social, mental and spiritual.

It’s easy to see how the majority of the commands relate to us today, except one, the Sabbath rest. On one hand there are Christians who ignore the command, while others idolize it. Obviously both responses are not Biblical.

In this seminar we will: 1) Briefly articulate the Biblical definition of Sabbath, 2) Spell out concretely how to appropriate the Sabbath into our daily and weekly cycle of life, and 3) How not to idolize (abuse) the Sabbath rest. The majority of the seminar will be spent on the second objective.
